A TIME TO REMEMBER, A TIME TO SHARE LOVE AND BE THANKFUL.
It is time now to put defeat behind us and look ahead.
With the last two year campaign, I am certain that everyone would like to put aside politics for a while. And, since the holidays are at the door practically, it is time for all of us to give thanks to many blessings that we have been given, much to include our gratitude for life and liberty, for which we have worked so hard to achieve and which needs protection every minute and cannot be taken for granted. Furthermore ahead, we must articulate a positive vision, work for that, for America’s future that speaks to America’s hopes, achievements, concerns and immediate needs. The ground I believe we must reclaim as Americans is faith in power and individual, to build a nation through hard work, personal responsibility, self-discipline, all of which is our uniting principle.
THANKSGIVING
is all about togetherness, love and sharing, and giving thanks to your dear ones, as their blessings strengthen the ties that binds you, your family and your loved ones together. Therefore, in a “Thanksgiving Hello”, I wish your near and dear ones a Thanksgiving Brimming over with happiness and joy.
Then, let Wednesday December 10, 2008 be the Christmas Party being held at the beautiful home of our club member Penny Chaffin, I hope all of you can and will attend, to share the joy of our traditions. You will be welcomed by much, along with some life music performances. Therefore please bring along your voices and a musical instrument if you have one.
I look forward to seeing you all soon, and again THANK YOU to all our loyal members who worked hard throughout the year, and who truly care deeply about this wonderful country. May all of you be blessed in good health always.

Your hard work for CPWHRWF is also rare and valuable.
Our lively, active club is set to be recognized at the LACFRW Biennial Convention on December 3. Clubs will be given awards for their programs, membership advances, ways and means successes, and for campaign/precinct organization.
Hats off to our officers and chairpersons for leading Canoga Park/West Hills Republican Women to the top designation--Diamond Award-- for 2008.
In addition, our members have reported over 14,000 political volunteer hours as well as nearly 5,000 hours as community volunteers. Republican Women (and men) make a real difference. Take a bow for sharing your valuable and rare talents on behalf of America. Diamonds are deserved by all.
We won!
Remember the many requests for your number counts of those voters that your clubs and members registered from January 1st until October 20th? It paid off for L.A. County because LACFRW won the California Federation of Republican Women (CFRW) Southern Division (all counties from Santa Barbara to San Diego) award of $500 for the county that registered the most voters!
Thank you...to all of you who walked that extra walk (talked the talk) to register as many Republicans as you could. We won with 2710 registered Republican voters as of the 20th and by the 31st we totaled 3382 new Republican voters because of that nearly year~long effort. We did our job. You did yours. We did our best, and we won!
From CFRW Southern Division we also won a second place award for CARING FOR AMERICA and a first place award, along with w $20 check, for our newsletter.

Can you imagine what it is like to be a frightened, lonely child who has not only suffered the trauma of child abuse and the necessary removal from home but must also endure the indignity of arriving at a shelter or foster home with no personal belongings? Or a teenager who must suddenly leave his school and friends and turn up somewhere new without school supplies or a clean tee shirt?
These are the kids we help when we “stuff” bags each month.
.
The next visit to the MY STUFF BAG PROJECT is Wednesday, December 17th. We will meet at 9 a.m. at Pril’s house. If you would like to join us, call Pril Sullivan at 887-0448.

This information was sent to us from Ron Nehring, California Republican Chairman
The California Republican Party and the Republican National Committee have launched Party several legal initiatives aimed at improving our ability to support our federal, state and local candidates.
Initiative #1: RNC and CRP v. FEC (Federal Election Committee). On Thursday the RNC, CRP and Republican Party of San Diego County filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in DC to overturn provisions of federal campaign law (the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, or BCRA) that unfairly impose restrictions on our support for state and local candidates. The federal government can regulate campaign activity as it relates to a federal candidate, but should not have the power to impose restrictions on our support for state and local candidates. A victory in this case will significantly improve our ability to support Republicans for state legislature and local offices, plus party positions on ballot measures. We believe it is likely this case will ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Initiative #2: RNC and Louisiana Republican Party v. FEC
The RNC and the Republican Party in Louisiana sued to overturn the coordinated expenditure limits that restrict the state and national party's ability to support U.S. Senate and House candidates. These "coordinated limits" restrict the amount of direct support we can provide in federal races. In California, these limits impede our ability to directly support a Republican U.S. Senate nominee in a meaningful way. This case is likely to go to the U.S. Supreme Court this term.
Initiative #3: RNC "Consent Decree" on Ballot Integrity programs. Since 1982 the Republican National Committee has been restricted by a consent decree that was entered into at the time to avoid litigation. That decree has been used by the Democratic National Committee every two years to limit Republican Party ballot integrity programs. The RNC has moved in federal court in New Jersey to dissolve this consent decree so the party may fully and vigorously implement programs intended to protect the integrity of the balloting process

Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa Seeks to Slice Spending to Close $110 Million Budget Gap
By GABRIEL KAHN
Wall Street Journal November 21, 2008
LOS ANGELES -- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called for "dramatic and immediate" spending cuts as part of an emergency overhaul of the city's budget, which is facing a deficit of at least $110 million.
Los Angeles, like many U.S. cities, has been hit by dwindling revenue from property and sales taxes, while facing higher-than-anticipated fuel costs and payouts from lawsuits lodged against city hall.
California's state budget also is in dire straits, with officials looking at an increase in vehicle fees as the state faces a deficit that could total as much as $24 billion by 2010.
The City Administrative Office, in charge of the city's $7 billion budget, has already proposed plans to cut libraries, crossing guards and the Zoo as it tries to grapple with its current budget, which runs through June 30.
Among the new cuts Mr. Villaraigosa proposed on Friday were 3% reductions to all city departments except police, fire and emergency management, which would face 1% cuts. The city also has a hiring freeze and is trying to broker a deal with unions to reduce labor costs, which account for 80% of spending. Many of the proposals face opposition on the city council.
Mr. Villaraigosa noted that even if the city were to successfully implement all the cuts, it still wouldn't close the current projected gap. The administrative office estimated a $55 million revenue shortfall this fiscal year. The number is expected to grow since nearly 10% of the city's general fund budget is generated by sales taxes. With retailers looking ahead to an anemic holiday shopping season, sales taxes are expected to decline significantly.
For the 2009-10 budget, the administrative office is projecting a shortfall of $300 million. That gap is also expected to grow as revenue predictions shrink.
In recent years, Los Angeles has relied on pushing through increases to a series of special levies to maintain revenue.

Assembly 101: 28 freshmen start learning the ropes
By Jim Sanders jsanders@sacbee.com
Published: Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 | Page 4A Sacramento Bee
The 28-member freshman class attended an orientation in Assembly chambers, getting a feel of the desks and chairs before any shouting begins.
The freshmen will be sworn in Dec. 1. Meanwhile, the old Legislature is trying to tackle the budget problem in a special session.
The Assembly takes more than 5,000 votes in a two-year session, has 29 standing committees, 28 select committees, and abides by 121 house rules, more than 60 joint rules and about 600 rules of parliamentary procedure.

THE NEXT STEPS
Volume XIII No. 45 - November 6, 2008
TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE
After this historic election, one thing is clear: With the current state of our economy and country, we need our newly elected officials to succeed in putting the country on the right fiscal track. Whether you’re celebrating or mourning this election, we, as Americans, are all in this together.
The economy is in a deep ditch, we are fighting two wars, and looming challenges, like health care, climate change, and Social Security are daunting, to say the least. The next President and Congress must make some very tough decisions, while adopting some common-sense principles on how to govern. Here are our five most critical:
KEEP ‘EM HONEST - Congress needs to remember the importance of checks and balances between all branches of government. The Republicans were the last to hold the legislative trifecta – House, Senate and White House – but Congress acted like a lapdog, turning a blind eye toward executive-branch mismanagement. In President George W. Bush’s first term, you could count the number of real oversight hearings on one hand. Failure to watch and account for how powerful government officials use or abuse their power is a disservice to the country. Recently some committees, particularly in the House, took important steps toward reversing that trend. They should not let up on providing proper oversight now that their guy is in the White House.
DON’T LOSE THE VETO PEN – For the first five and a half years, President Bush didn’t veto any legislation from Congress. President-elect Obama should use the veto pen when strategically appropriate, particularly for bills that serve only to reward fat-cat campaign contributors and lobbyists who may feel they now have a free pass. Vetoes and veto threats build a natural tension between Congress and the Presidency that helps to protect taxpayers.
PASS OUT THE SCALPELS – During the campaign, there was a lot of talk about taking a scalpel to the budget to trim wasteful spending. Considering the amount of fat and the financial hole we’re in, everyone from Obama to the freshman House member has to get involved in deciding where to cut spending.
LIMIT THE URGES TO SPEND FIRST – Many will view the election result as a mandate for major new spending, and there is a growing consensus that deficit spending and stimulus investments are certainties in our near future. On the heels of years of budget deficits, it is more important than ever that the administration show real discipline: Stimulus packages need to be designed to address root problems and help transition to a healthier economy, not as feel-good political fixes that recycle old, expensive ideas that don’t work. Ideology needs to take a backseat to practical, hard nosed decision-making on where to invest taxpayer money.
OPEN UP GOVERNMENT - The Obama Administration and new Congress need to make an early and dramatic commitment to transparency to ensure taxpayers are confident decisions are being made in their best interests. People deserve to know and watch how their tax dollars are being spent.
Obviously these five principles won’t solve all the nation’s financial challenges, but following them will put us on the right track. By accepting these ideas on how to approach the national financial challenges, the new President and Congress can help start us down a path to prosperity and get us out of the economic ditch that we can’t seem to get out of.

NEW WEBSITE FOR CONSERVATIVE INFORMATION
Started by Michael Reagan. He says, “Here are some of the things that YOU AND I will be able to do at www.ReaganAction.com”
STOP LIBERAL BILLS -- We will constantly be on the watch for these bills -- and every time they get introduced, we'll alert our Activists to literally FLOOD Capitol Hill with millions of phone calls, faxes, emails and even hand-delivered letters and petitions, DEMANDING that our elected legislators do what WE say, or else face our wrath at the next election!
FIGHT LIBERAL EXECUTIVE ORDERS.. For every liberal (and usually unconstitutional) Executive Order that Barack Obama issues, we'll alert our Activists to BARRAGE the White House with even MORE phone calls, faxes, emails and even hand-delivered letters and petitions, DEMANDING that he "reverse course" on those Orders or face a Republican Congress in 2010!
EXPOSE LIBERAL CORRUPTION …YOU AND I will be there every step of the way, making sure that no stone is left unturned, every dark corner is filled with light, and every illegal act is paid for with censure, impeachment, recalls, investigations, and jail time for every criminal we expose in Washington, D.C.
COUNTER THE LIBERAL MEDIA -- Whenever any of these things take place, we'll be directing our "Reagan Activists" to constantly fill the news media with letters to the editor, guest editorials, and news articles detailing the socialistic and corrupt policies of the new liberal regime, and offering America a better way -- the way of freedom... the CONSERVATIVE way.
Together, we CAN save America from the new liberal regime! Join me now in the NEW Reagan Revolution, to bring Conservatism BACK! www.ReaganAction.com.
